Meet mrs. Colando
Hello, my name is Jennifer Colando (Previously Jennifer Palmer before getting married on 5/12/23!) and I am an instructional teacher at Windsor Elementary School.
I grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois where I attended Our Lady of the Wayside Elementary School and Rolling Meadows High School. I received my bachelor's degree in special education (LBS1-Learning Behavior Specialist) from Illinois State University and my masters in applied behavior analysis (ABA) with an emphasis in Autism from Ball State University. I have finished my behavior analytic supervision and am currently studying to sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) exam. I also am certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
In 2023, I finished my 13th year of teaching and learning! From 2010-2013, I taught at Wood Dale Junior High as a 6th-8th grade resource, instructional and co-taught classroom teacher. Aside from being a teacher, at Wood Dale I was also the Response to Intervention coordinator for the 6th grade team. After teaching middle school, I began teaching the intermediate (3rd-5th grade) instructional program at Windsor Elementary during the 2013-2014 school year. For the past nine years, I have taught at Windsor within their primary (kindergarten-2nd grade) instructional program. I also have experience as a one-on-one aide for students with disabilities while working with the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) as well as a nanny for a child with Autism for over two years. In addition, I regularly am volunteering at the Misericordia Heart of Mercy Home in Chicago, where my aunt was previously a resident.
Currently, I am living in downtown Chicago in Wicker Park with my husband where I enjoy spending most of my free time exploring the city, working out or visiting with family and friends. I also waitress part time in Wrigleyville at my family friends restaurant-even though I am a White Sox fan! This summer we enjoyed taking a trip to Spain where we visited Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. The week before school started we also took a family trip to Seaside Florida with my husband's parents, his siblings and our 6 nieces and nephews.
I am looking forward to working with your child and collaborating with your family in order to assure that they have a successful and enjoyable educational experience as a Wildcat at Windsor Elementary!
